To see a world in a grain of sand
And a heaven in a wild flower,
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand
And eternity in an hour
'Auguries of Innocence' William Blake

South Harris, Outer Hebrides
My first camera as a teenager was like a window to seeing and experiencing the world differently. A 35mm strung around my neck everywhere, several darkrooms in small spaces and on to study at university in the US and UK. The passion has never left me.
It's wonderful how unique our way of 'seeing' is, where we as individuals feel and perceive our world not exactly as others do. Capturing life in fractions of seconds, sometimes something wonderful happens.
Landscape and Seascape imagery are a cornerstone, but my photographic interests are fluid. New techniques and genres attract and motivate. More recently documentary and street photography, often featuring pre-development urban fringes where the art and language of the street takes over, are like a magnet. Areas perceived as rough or in decline are actually rich and fizzing with life.
I'm also working on a collection of Architectural Abstract images depicting modernist or brutalist buildings with hard textured, grungie, or unnaturally coloured skies. Making these images of dirty skies, stark contrast, and hard edges feels poignant, like laying bare a pre-view of darker times for planet earth. Images that extol the beauty of planet earth as well as those that express darker futuristic warnings both appear equally relevant today.
Intentional Camera Movement (ICM) and the sometimes-extraordinary impact that light and colour can produce through modern mirrorless sensors is another genre for experimenting and creating.
